Cook Shire Council Assessment

  • Location: Lakeland, North Qld
  • Client: Cook Shire Council
  • Scope: Assesment and remediation of a pesticide container landfill

When Cook Shire Council wanted to develop a community recreational facility, they first had to address a legacy pesticide issue. The “drum muster” land was historically used for community collection of agricultural chemical containers. The site history performed by Environmental Advisors identified the types of residual pesticides (mainly herbicides associated with peanut cropping) and expected locations the containers were buried over a three-year period. This allowed the targeted soil and groundwater program to rapidly delineate the areas of concern and support remediation to remove the land from the Environmental Management Register.
