Watpac

  • Location: Roma, Qld
  • Client: Watpac and Qld Health
  • Scope: Asbestos in soil assessment and remediation and validation support

Ideally there should be no surprises on civil construction projects, especially around contaminated land when mobilisation has started for construction of a new hospital. When a generalist environmental consultant dabbling in contaminated land understates the problem for whatever reason, the project cost can be significant with time and cost delays and eroded stakeholder confidence. Watpac’s James Nelson, Quality & Environment Manager, was surprised a second time by our rapid response time in mobilising to Roma, Qld, to update the assessment of contaminated land impact. Our Remediation Plan was carefully designed to team up the project’s earthworks sub-contractor with a local asbestos removal contractor and Council’s waste management options to provide a constructible local solution that ticked all the legislative, time and cost control boxes.

Delivered under budget, the project timeline was protected by our rapid response and ability to provide clear and concise advice at all stages of the remediation and validation project.
