Breaking ground for a medium density residential development in Brisbane unearthed an unwelcome surprise in the form of unexpected foundry wastes and asbestos within a former creek, plus a little extra contamination from the service station next door. With the builder already mobilised we were able to successfully integrate and avoid demobilisation and other major delays, through our rapid deployment of our contamination and hygienist professionals.
Our track record of civil contractor support and thorough understanding of the construction design allowed options to be progressed to solve related site-specific challenges of sewer trunk mains surrounded by foundry waste, dewatering, vertical boundary excavations and inquisitive surrounding residents. By working with the Auditor as fill, soil and groundwater was assessed and then remediated incrementally across the site, we maximised construction activities as surrounding validation works were completed, and the land removed from the EMR.
