Public land can be affected by legacy contamination issues that may become more pronounced over time as environmental law tightens, development encroaches, erosion uncovers, or other factors change the status quo. Commonly it is local government tasked with addressing these often-unexpected issues, as the case with Buckley’s Hole Conservation Park on the Bribie Island foreshore.
Moreton Bay Regional Council sought guidance from Environmental Advisors to navigate complex policy outcomes under the contaminated land provisions of the Queensland Environmental Protection Act 1994 with respect to statutory outcomes, such as modification of the Environmental Management Register (EMR) record and statutory Site Management Plan (SMP).
When Council engaged a suitably qualified person (SQP) to assess the land through a contaminated land investigation and development of a remediation plan, we were engaged to provide detailed review of the design that included geotechnical, ecological and engineering specialists.
